This year the heart of design beats in Spain!

As a proud partner, iF Design aims to bring Spanish design power and creativity to the whole world. On 16 June 2022, we honored the next generation of designers in the World Design Capital! The winners of this year's student competition, the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD, were invited to Valencia. where the awards ceremony took place.

iF: Final spurt at World Design Capital 2022 Valencia. What highlights can we still look forward to this year?

Corinna Heilmann (CH): We are just about to start our great Street Festival www.streetfestivalvelancia.com and have nearly every day events in our Agora Valencia pavilion. Also, our big highlight is awaiting us in November, the Design Policy Conference and we are also planning a celebration towards the end of the year.

iF: What are your personal highlights this year?

CH: A personal highlight was definitely Experience Valencia www.experiencevalenciafest.com. We had amazing speakers and a really cool, relaxed atmosphere, where people just talked, laughed and shared experiences… There were over 38 countries present, more than 1,000 attendees and a really young talent audience. (Also thanks to the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD ceremony, that was celebrated here during and with Experience Valencia Festival.)

iF: What will happen next year in Valencia?

CH: One of the first things we started working on when Valencia was named World Design Capital, was the legacy program.

The legacy of the World Design Capital is an already established Foundation for Design and also a City Design Council – the first in Spain. So, after 2022 we will preserve all the work of the last three years and continue to build the design legacy for Valencia.

EXPERIENCE VALENCIA 2022

The framework for this year's award ceremony of the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2022 was the first major program highlight of the WDC – the international festival EXPERIENCE VALENCIA 2022 – where leading design personalities performed in exciting formats from 13 to 18 June 2022.

The title ‘World Design Capital’ is given every two years by the WORLD DESIGN ORGANIZATION (WDO) in Montreal (Canada) to cities that use design to improve economic, social and cultural life.

Valencia is the third largest city in Spain and is located on the Mediterranean coast. In the Valencia region, which includes the provinces of Castellon, Valencia and Alicante (from north to south), one finds a tremendous amount of creativity, design talent, innovation and good design. The election of the World Design Capital 2022 is a fantastic opportunity to show how the design industry in the region of Valencia enriches both Spain and the rest of the world. Jimmy D'Heer from our iF Design Office in Spain also understands the great potential that lies in this collaboration: "We at iF Design will support the WDC 2022 team in promoting Valencian and Spanish design on an international level by providing a window of information and communication to a very broad international community."
